At the University of Saint Francis, we believe your unique gifts, interests, and passions are meant to serve others. Our Healthcare Camp is your personal expedition to explore how your purpose can be fulfilled through a career in health sciences. Whether you aspire to be a nurse or doctor or simply want to explore the inner workings of a hospital, this camp is your gateway to the future.
The “boat” is sinking, the shore is distant, and the survival of your crew depends on your expertise. This year, we’ve traded the traditional classroom for an immersive, high-stakes expedition. This is a transformative journey for high schoolers who want to test their grit, explore their calling, and see if they have what it takes to thrive in the fast-paced world of healthcare.
Through hands-on clinical simulations and “island” survival scenarios, you’ll discover that a career in medicine isn’t just a job, it’s a purpose-driven voyage.

Program highlights
- Our campus transforms into a series of healthcare stations where you’ll engage in the actual work of medical professionals. No more shadowing from the sidelines, you’ll get hands-on with different healthcare professions, including Nursing, Physical Therapy, Kinesiology, Nutrition, Social Work, Surgery, Radiology, Pharmacy, Sonography, Respiratory Therapy, EMS, and more.
- Chart your course from high school to the professional world. We’ll show you how to leverage dual credits, certifications (CNA, EMT, MA), and degree programs at Saint Francis to get a head start on your career before you even graduate high school.
- Connect with Saint Francis educators and industry pros who have navigated the deep waters of the healthcare system. You’ll identify your potential mentors and learn how the Franciscan values of community and service act as a steady anchor in a demanding career.
What campers will learn and experience
All Saint Francis Discovery Academy experiences are designed and taught by SF educators, giving campers a true taste of life on a college campus while exploring high-growth career paths.
This camp is a journey of self-discovery, helping campers identify their unique strengths and how to apply them to their academic and professional futures. Through the lens of our “Camp Castaway” survival challenge, campers will:
- Develop a sophisticated understanding of the healthcare landscape, allowing you to “set your heading” toward a career that matches your strengths.
- Forge direct connections with SF faculty who provide the insider insight and career guidance needed to navigate the industry.
- Build total familiarity with the university system, from specialized labs and equipment to understanding how to leverage dual credits and certifications.
- Walk away with a completed “Personal Healthcare Voyage Map” a concrete action plan for your next steps in service to others.
