savor the sweet symphony of summer. The Discovery Academy’s City Strings Summer Camp will challenge you to stretch your musical abilities. With concentrated time to strengthen your technique, expand your musical theory knowledge, and play music with friends, you’ll be surprised at how quickly you can progress.

This camp includes classes for strings: violin, viola, cello, and bass. Each day will include ensemble classes, group classes, a master class, scales and rhythm, and music theory. Students must have at least 2 years of playing experience. The week will end with a musical presentation and concert.

All classes will take place in the Music Technology Center at the USF Robert Goldstine Performing Arts Center located in downtown Fort Wayne at 431 W. Berry St. Limited spots are available. Early registration is advised. Deadline to register is July 15, 2024.

This camp does not provide meals. Please pack your own lunches. Lunch break is from 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.

  • One week of concentrated musical study can have a huge impact. Campers will advance their skills and feel energized and musically inspired by their camp experience all year long.
  • The highlight of the week is campers performing what they’ve learned together in a concert for friends and family.

All of the USF Discovery Academy experiences are designed and taught by USF educators. Campers will get to experience life on a college campus and hone their musicality.

Our City Strings Ensemble Camp provides experiences that encourage campers to grow both musically and personally. Campers will:

  • Boost self-confidence. When you transition from mastering notes and rhythms to creating beautiful music, you’ll feel a deep sense of accomplishment.
  • Gain a more sophisticated level of coordination. We’re talking about enhanced hand-eye coordination, refined body posture, and improved control of both thought and movement.
  • Gain teamwork skills. In the world of music, every note contributes to the symphony, and every musician is a crucial part of the ensemble.

Program Outcomes:

  • Advance musicianship skills
  • Learn music theory
  • Develop a personal practice for continued growth
